Disgusting.

Anyone who's been watching the news recently might just agree. What the Israelis have been doing to Lebanon in the last few days is absolutely outrageous and downright wrong, whichever way you look at it.
To cripple an entire nation like that, destroying its infrastructure and terrorising its inhabitants in such a way shouldn't be allowed to happen like that.
Perhaps the most disturbing fact is that the strongest statement the "international community" has issued so far is for Israel to "show restraint" in its attacks. Disgusting.

I've been to Beirut quite a few times in the last year and have come to love the place, its people and everything Lebanon stands for.
A country that has managed to rise from the ashes of a devastating civil war, and managed to build up a thriving and prosperous economy in the last decade shouldn't have to be sent back 20 years, to a time when crossing the street was a feat in itself.
While of course I am trying to be objective and seeing the other side of the issue, it's by far outweighed, and I am going to take sides. With the Lebanese, of course.

Touching back on the issue of how the "west" has reacted (or not at all for that matter).
I've just come back from Bishkek, and have of course been following developments religiously with the aid of the television.
Comparing how different news channels report on the situation is quite interesting.
BBC World and CNN try to be objective, reporting from both fronts, explaining people's views on both sides of the situation.
The UK's Sky News might aswell not, as they have given more coverage to football scandals and evaluations of why England is crap at football.
Then comes FOX News, my oh my. Never in my life have I seen such biased reporting, absolutely shocking. I won't go into details, but you can just imagine who's side them airheads are going to be on.
I will name one specific example however. In a continous hour of watching FOX News, not once was the deathtoll of 63 innocent Lebanese civilians mentioned. Instead, about half of that hour was spent openly sympathizing and pouring over 2 Israeli casualties, while not once mentioning the suffering that had been brought on to the countless more on the other side of the border.
Makes one think how today's media dare to judge who's life is more important.

And on a final note. After coming back from work today, I did make a point of going through my entire wardrobe and food cupboard to see where my belongings are sourced from.
One jar of grilled capsicums, 2 white t-shirts and a pot of houmus ended up in the bin, and I've made a vow to be more careful on future shopping trips.
